BRITISH STREPTOCARPUS SOCIETY

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN - September 2020
VIRTUAL FLOWER REPORT:
We might have been forced to cancel our annual show at Brownhills this year and I know that
was a big disappointment to the many of you who turn up to exhibit, reacquaint yourselves
with old friends and generally have a good time. However, it was pleasing to see just how
many of you took up the challenge to support our “Virtual Flower Show”.
There was a total of 68 entries across the four classes, not as many as we’d get on the show
benches, but a good turn out all the same. The entries came from across the UK, and we
even had some from Turkeyand the USA! For those of you who like statistics the ladies just
outnumbered the men in terms of entries, the ladies scoring 57% to the men’s 43%.
To view the winning entries, follow this link to the BSS VIRTUALSHOW 2020.
To view all of the entries as a video, follow this link to the VIDEOS page.
NEW TREASURER:
We are pleased to announce that Viv Taylor has kindly volunteered to take over the role in the role as BSS Treasurer.
Her contact email is on the BSS Team page. Many thanks to Rick Benton for all his work as Treasurer over the years.

ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The Society was formed in September 1999 especially for Streptocarpus (Cape Primrose) growers with small, medium or large collections. The current membership is just over 550. We welcome new members with a wide range of growing knowledge and experience. Members range from beginners with a few plants on their windowsills to expert growers with many years of experience. We are happy to help new members to increase their expertise and enjoyment of streptocarpus growing.

RHS AWARD FOR FRANK DAVIES
In 2019 Frank Davies received the Maurice Mason Award from the RHS Tender Ornamental Plant Committee to recognise and reward his significant personal achievement relating to plants. They felt that Frank's passion and dedication to promoting streptocarpus over so many years makes him the very deserving first recipient of this new award.
